PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN

WHAT EXACTLY CAN I EXPECT FROM THE PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN PROGRAM?
Florida Vocational Institute’s Patient Care Technician program is designed to offer students a clear understanding of technical medical career skills that focus on patient care. Visualize training under the guidance of a physician or practitioner, learning how to take vital signs, check blood and glucose levels, perform dialysis, and provide home healthcare needs. You will learn everything from how to change patients’ bandages and perform EKGs to understanding Alzheimer’s disease and restorative care. As a patient care technician, you work under the supervision of a physician or nursing staff and are fully focused on caring for a patient, monitoring a patient’s condition, and reporting any findings. Your job will usually include everything from collecting bodily fluids for testing, phlebotomy, sanitizing a patient’s room to feeding your patient and brushing their teeth. Our program prepares you to handle all these aspects of patient care confidently.

WHAT KIND OF JOB CAN I GET AS A GRADUATE?
Our Patient Care Technician program provides students with the knowledge and training to become an entry level patient care technician in acute and extended care facilities. Our graduates may find employment at a nursing home, rehabilitation center, extended care facility, or in a hospital. If you have a specific interest in patient care and want to gain a position in a rising career field, Florida Vocational Institute’s Patient Care Technician program is right for you!

DO I NEED TO BE CERTIFIED?
No, you do not need to be certified, but Florida Vocational Institute strongly advises all of our students to take the patient care technician certification exam (CPCT), which we administer at our learning facility.
